Mommy much?

Usually after I finish an exam or a paper I zone out a bit - kind of like eating a big bowl of ice cream right after you finish a long run.  Still not good for you but you feel more justified doing it.  Life is a process people...I'm working on it.

Usually this means I catch up on The Office (Jim and Pam!) or cyber stalk my friends on facebook.  The other day I was reading a blog entry - post paper writing - and I hit the "next blog" arrow up at the top.  It takes you to a random blog somewhere on the vast interweb - like a mini surprise!

Somehow it wasn't so surprising that I hit about 20 mommy blogs in a row.  You know, the ones titled "The XXXX family - fun and frolicking in fabulous Florida!" which have thousands of pictures of the kids and the dog, family updates, a Christmas photo, random musings on parenthood, links to their outdated webpages, videos of their son taking his first steps...wait a second.

Am I a mommy blog???  (Jon does still post occasionally, but I'm thinking of highlighting his sections as a featured guest.  Is that a challenge?  Hmmmm.)

I think the answer is yes which isn't really a bad thing.  We did start this blog as an update mechanism so our far away family would feel more in the loop.

BUT - a little bit of spice doesn't hurt anything.

So, in an attempt to up the piquancy, I've identified characteristics from other mom-written blogs that might help.  Let's see how we measure up to the top five:

1) They are usually crafty, creative, and have great tips (I created our semi-finished header.  Does that count?)
2) They get to the point and don't blab.  (uh, whoops)
3) They contain interesting, thought provoking, witty essays. (Come back Jon!)
4) They feature awesome, artsy photos of adorable families,  exotic locals, fun ideas (Got adorable down pat.)
5) They post regularly. (no comment)

On the spicy scale I give HP View a mild to bland rating.

Never fear, however!  Gina's mystery mexican nights have already livened up life around our little abode!  Get ready to party because the chile train is coming!

(total inside joke - woowoo!)

40 Weeks...week by week

Just for fun I put all the Pod Pics together into one giant pregnancy review.  I started at week 12 because that's the first time that
a) you could notice anything and
b) I finally got motivated to take a picture each week.

I missed three weeks: 22, 31, and 33, but I think you still get the idea.  The belly got big.

And big, and big, and big.  Man...that was a lot of baby.  It already feels strange to look back at those pictures and remember what it was like.  Which makes me really glad I took all those pictures to remind myself that yes - I really did look like I stuffed a watermelon under my shirt.

Ellyn and I were talking about how we have such good intentions when it comes to recording life's little happenings; the high hopes for journaling, filling out baby books and such (not the baby books for me, I know my weak areas people, and baby books are never going to happen no matter how well intentioned I am).

This is especially relevant to me because I have such a terrible memory.  Just ask anyone who has ever borrowed money from me.  I can't even remember who owes me how much and why.  And no, you may not borrow money from me.

But even if I don't remember that Owen's head measured 14.75 inches (and really...why does that matter?  If they measured his fingers at each Dr's visit would I feel compelled to write that down too?) I will remember that I loved cuddling with him, that I loved his tiny head, and the happy face he makes when he has a full tummy.

I'm giving renewed vigor to my journaling quest.

Because hey, someday I might really want to know how ginormous I was at 37 weeks pregnant.

Happy 50 Posts!

We reached 50 posts! In honor of the blog's mini-milestone we've unveiled a brand new blog page. I designed the page and Jon used his awesome skills to make it a web reality.

The awesome banner design (with slight modifications) is from SwirlyCurls - The Brush Kit at http://www.createsk8.com/ Thanks!! The birds and nest though I designed.

I thought these 4th of July pics from my trip to Seattle capture the mood nicely.

The design of everything may change slightly in the coming weeks - we're still figuring out how to do all this - but what do you think? Feel free to leave a comment below (or on Jon's facebook site - since most of you go there anyway!)

Hmmm...so I guess that for the 100th post we might have to give something away to top this!

Happy 50 Highpoint View!
