Week 18

Week 18. The picture below is a little dark. We took it kind of late in the day because I needed a nap. Oh well. You can still see pretty clearly that the baby is growing like crazy. In fact....

...I got my first pair of maternity jeans! Ok- maybe not the most exciting part of pregnancy - but I was pretty happy that the process was relatively painless. We were shopping at the Wheaton Mall and went (frustratingly) to an Old Navy and then a Motherhood. Apparently I kept trying on the wrong size pants (it's so hard to figure out what size you need) and they were super big. I kept thinking that maybe the baby wasn't showing quite enough to make the jeans necessary (although nothing else fits while buttoned). Finally a really nice sales lady helped me pick the right size and TA-DA! Here I am!

The baby has been moving around a lot this week. Both Jon and I are finally home for a bit (after Wichita, Florida, and Westmoreland) and it's almost like the baby knows that we're more comfortable. Otherwise, nothing else new this week!!! But stay tuned... ;)

Lunch with Gramma Tyler

One of the best things about this trip is that I had the opportunity to meet with my Gramma Tyler for lunch in Pensacola.  We stopped by a Red Lobster and feasted.  It was great to catch up and see her after such a long time.  Below are a couple pics...

Doesn't she look great!  That's 77 years old, brother!  I hope I look as good.

Sorry Em, I couldn't pass up a date with this beautiful lady ;)

Well, I'm sitting at the gate waiting for my plane home.  The trip was very successful work-wise, and I'm ready to come home and see my love.  I'll be heading down to join her with Dan, Trish and Ava tomorrow morning.

And growing...

This week, the little one is about the size of a turnip (head to rumpus).  That's pretty decent... not so little anymore.

I think the eyebrows are growing this week as well.  Pretty amazing :)

Trip to Ft. Walton Beach

I'm down in Ft. Walton Beach this week for a work seminar.  It's a sort of marketing type situation where I 'promote' our products all day.  Yes, sales.  Not something I ever thought I'd ever be doing... but it seems to be going well so maybe I'm not so bad.

Here's our table presentation...

A view of the pool...

A view of the beach...

Another view of the beach...

Me hard at work (sort of)...

So, it's surprising that they get any work done * laugh *.  Anyways, I'm having lunch with gramma on Thursday so I'll definitely post more pictures of that.

Week 17

We are now past 17 weeks! I'm feeling the baby move more and more. Probably at least 2 or 3 times a day now. Yesterday I felt a strong movement - almost like a little knot was protruding from the lower left side. Could it be a head or a shoulder??? - it's hard to tell.

This past weekend Jon and I were in Wichita Kansas for his father's wedding - something I'm sure he'll be posting about soon. The flying and travel went great. It probably helped that we slept in almost every day.

This week I'll be joining Dan, Trish, and Ava at Westmoreland - on the Potomac. Should be a fun couple days away. It's nice to have a break from work. Jon will be joining us on Thursday when he gets back from working in Florida. I'll post on those fun times in a few days!

By the way - the black fuzz in the bottom corner of the photo is Bijou's head. Bijou is our landlady's standard poodle. :) She was keeping me company during the photo-taking process (which is sooo much harder without Jon's help!)

Keep on growing....

This week, near the end of week 17 / beginning of week 18, the baby is about the size of a pomegranate.  I don't know if this picture does it justice, but it's hard to believe something that big is hiding in Em's only slightly protruding bump.

Pretty cool!

(Not so) Breaking Geek News!

News Flash... we have our iPhones... repeat, we have our iPhones

Okay, it's not really recent news... but I think it's pretty cool nonetheless.  They are pretty amazing little pieces of technology.  I didn't expect them to be so life-changing.  It's like a computer in your pockets.

Okay... geek-out episode is over now.  By the way, that butterfly picture on my phone is from our little trip that Emily chronicled last week.  I'll have to post some pictures from my hotel in Florida.  I'll be there in Ft. Walton Beach for a business seminar.  The hotel is apparently right on the beach.  Pretty crazy really.  Military people have this crazy notion that work gets done at the beach... hmmm.

Week 17

16 Weeks! I guess that means it's been a month of posting the 'podulation' pictures. We are creeping closer to the halfway point now - which is a little hard to fathom. At our last checkup we heard the baby's heartbeat again (150 beats per minute!) and got a good report from Dr. Cobbs. I think we hit a milestone because they scheduled the next three month's of visits instead of just one month ahead. We finally got to break into the morning appointments!!! (Previously it's been impossible - I felt like it was reserved for a secret club.) It's the little things that make me happy.

The big news for this week is that I've started to feel the baby move. I'm pretty sure that I felt the first movement about two weeks ago - it was like a little goldfish flicked around for just a second. This week was more fluttery - I've felt something almost every day. A little wiggle or a little quick series of light thumps. It's so exciting to finally have some physical proof of the baby. After all, the baby is pretty large at this point! I'm constantly amazed that it's so big but so 'invisible'. I can't wait for the movements to get more intense and frequent as time goes by!

We've been having wonderful, cool weather. It's starting to smell a little like fall. Jon and I went for a run on the C&O Canal yesterday and, even though it was warm, I noticed that the trees are developing that deep, dark green of late summer. The nights here have been chilly now too - with no humidity. Great sleeping weather.

We have a little bit of traveling coming up this week and next and Jon will be away in Florida for a few days next week - so I'll be attempting to take the week 17 picture alone! We'll see how that goes. :)

Baby Wesley!!!

My dear friend Holly had her first baby early Saturday morning (12:26 am!)
Wesley Gordon Creasey. We always joked about who would have kids first - but I don't think we ever thought we'd have them 5 months apart! Congratulations Holly and Jeff!

Week 15

The week 15 picture. Definitely some slow growth happening here. I have a friend due three weeks before we are who started seriously showing at around 14 weeks. Just goes to show you that everybody's different. We have the 16 weeks checkup on Friday and will have to post the good Doctor's opinion. :)

Yesterday was absolutely beautiful here in DC. The weather was in the low 80s with a nice breeze and no humidity. Jon and I decided to bike the 5 miles downtown and spend some time on the National Mall and maybe visit a museum. Here's Jon in front of the Washington Monument (just to prove that we actually biked down). It's a great ride. I love that we're close enough to the city to bike in. Maybe our backs are feeling the 10 miles a little bit today - but it's a small price to pay.

We ate some pb&j's on the Mall and then went to the Natural History Museum for a bit. We checked out the new butterfly exhibit which was awesome. They stock a specially made capsule room with exotic butterflies from around the world (we were told they bring in 4 shipments every week). The butterflies won't lay eggs because they aren't around any of their natural plants (and with butterflies from almost every continent that'd be pretty hard to do!) Here are some great shots that Jon got of a few of the butterflies.
This is one of my favorite shots.

This one was called a peacock butterfly. Seen from different angles the color changed from green to blue. It literally looks like it has glitter all over it's wings and body.

Here's a video Jon shot of two butterflies.

Really beautiful.

The giant luna moth. This thing is really about the size of your hand. The body is much bigger than a large cicada.

And what would a trip to DC be without a little street vendor ice cream?

Well...

There is nothing much going on right now. The baby is about the size of an apple and is growing in leaps and bounds.

So, I thought I'd just say hi to all our family and friends. We're still alive and doing well. We have a doctor's appointment next week and we'll be sure to give an update on how things are progressing. Also, don't forget to check every Sunday for the latest "podulation" picture!

Love you all, JP

Week 14

Week 14 already! This dress (which you may recognize from last week's anniversary picture) makes me look a little more pregnant than any other outfit - but I've definitely noticed a waist expansion. I've been extra tired lately so maybe the baby is going through a growth spurt!

I can't believe that it's already August - time is really passing quickly this summer. Only 6 weeks until we're halfway through the pregnancy! Time to really start thinking about getting ready I guess. Let's go Craig's List!

Anniversary!

Here we are after having a fabulous dinner at the 1789 restaurant in Georgetown.

It's amazing to think that we've been married for 8 years now.  At one moment, so much has seemed to happen... while at the same time, you wonder where all the time has gone.  It's been wonderful to be married and continues to be so.

This is obviously our last 'solo' anniversary... I can't wait to see our family grow and expand.  Next year you'll see us holding a little one!

Oh, and isn't Emily gorgeous!!!
